CASE STUDIES I HAVE TAKEN UP

I HAVE TAKEN UP THE CASE STUDIES OF UK AND KENYA .

EARTHQUAKES IN UK

THE UK IS NOT GENERALLY ASSOCIATED WITH EARTHQUAKES , HOWEVER , BETWEEN 20-30 EARTHQUAKES ARE FELT BY PEOPLE EACH YEAR AND A FEW HUNDRED ONES ARE MEASURED USING SENSITIVE INSTRUMENTS . THE LARGEST EARTHQUAKE THAT OCCURRED IN THE UK WAS THE DOGGER BANK EARTHQUAKE (1931), WITH A MAGNITUDE OF 6.1 ON THE RICHTER SCALE . FORTUNATELY , IT WAS 60 MILES OFFSHORE , BUT WAS STILL POWERFUL ENOUGH TO CAUSE MINOR DAMAGE TO BUILDINGS ON THE EAST COAST OF ENGLAND . THE MOST DAMAGING UK EARTHQUAKE OF THE UK WAS THE COLCHESTER EARTHQUAKE (1884) WITH A MAGNITUDE OF 9.1 ON THE RICHTER SCALE , SOME 1200 BUILDINGS NEEDED REPAIRS , CHIMNEYS COLLAPSED AND WALLS WERE CRACKED .
